Meet Dr. Stamato
Dr. John P. Stamato is a board-certified Radiation Oncologist with more than 25 years of experience delivering comprehensive, patient-centered cancer care. He specializes in prostate cancer treatment, stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), and CyberKnife radiosurgery, and currently provides care to patients at Anova Cancer Care.
Dr. Stamato earned his Bachelor of Science from Eastern Kentucky University, studied abroad at the University of Siena in Italy, and completed additional studies at Purdue University’s School of Science. He went on to earn a Master of Public Affairs from Indiana University before attending Indiana University School of Medicine, where he received his medical degree. Following medical school, he completed an internship in Family Practice at the University of Wyoming and a residency in Radiation Oncology at Indiana University School of Medicine, where he also served as Chief Resident.
After completing his training, Dr. Stamato dedicated over 25 years to establishing and leading cancer centers in Sheridan and Gillette, Wyoming. He served as Clinical Director of the Welch Cancer Center in Sheridan for 20 years and the Heptner Cancer Center in Gillette for 26 years, maintaining an active patient care practice while advancing cancer treatment services in the region.
Dr. Stamato has participated as an investigator in national clinical trials through the National Cancer Institute (NCI), SWOG, NSABP, and RTOG. He is a Fellow of the American College of Radiation Oncology and maintains active medical licensure in multiple states.
Dr. Stamato believes that every patient is unique, and cancer treatment should be highly personalized. He values developing strong relationships with his patients and carefully tailoring treatment plans based on tumor characteristics, medical needs, and personal goals. His approach emphasizes thoughtful planning, clear communication, and compassionate support throughout the treatment process.
Now residing in Pine, Colorado, Dr. Stamato is grateful to be part of Anova Cancer Care and appreciates the opportunity to continue providing expert radiation oncology care while supporting patients and their families during one of the most challenging times in their lives.
