Meet Dr. Hazuka
Dr. Mark Hazuka is a Colorado native who brings decades of experience and a personal approach to cancer care—especially in the treatment of prostate cancer. Born and raised in Littleton when it was still rural farmland, he grew up in the country with horses.
He began his academic journey at the United States Military Academy at West Point before transferring to Creighton University, where he earned his degree in mathematics while discovering his passion for medicine. He returned to Colorado to attend the University of Colorado School of Medicine, followed by an internship at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s and a residency in radiation oncology.
Dr. Hazuka went on to serve as a faculty member and Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado, and later at the University of Michigan, where he treated patients in both VA and private healthcare settings. After several years in academic medicine, he returned to Colorado Springs to raise his family and transitioned into private practice, eventually joining what is now part of UCHealth.
In 2004, Dr. Hazuka moved to Las Vegas to work at a specialized prostate cancer center—an experience that solidified his passion for treating prostate cancer. Since then, he has focused much of his practice on helping men navigate this diagnosis with confidence and clarity. He has treated a high volume of patients over the years and has witnessed firsthand how advancements in radiation therapy have transformed care.
“Radiation oncology has changed dramatically,” he often shares. “What once required 8–9 weeks of treatment and up to 45 sessions can now often be completed in as few as five sessions.” With technologies like CyberKnife, Dr. Hazuka is able to deliver highly precise, high-dose radiation in a shorter time frame—making treatment more convenient while maintaining excellent outcomes. He is one of a limited number of physicians in Colorado with access to this advanced technology.
Dr. Hazuka believes in a patient-centered approach, helping each individual understand their options—whether radiation or surgery—and tailoring recommendations based on their unique health history and goals. He treats men across a wide age range, from their 50s into their 80s, and is known for his thorough, thoughtful consultations.
Over the course of his career, he has treated the full spectrum of cancers, including lung, head and neck, and prostate cancer, and has also provided locum tenens care across Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, Kansas City, and Georgia. His breadth of experience allows him to bring both expertise and perspective to every patient interaction.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Hazuka is a devoted husband—his wife is a vascular surgeon—and a proud father of three and grandfather. He enjoys spending time with his family, skiing, cycling, hiking, golfing, and taking full advantage of Colorado’s outdoors.
