Basil Swad, PA-C
Dr. Mazur’s Physician Assistant
Basil Swad grew up in south Florida and lived there for the first 18 years of his life. Since then he has lived in five other states. He attended Ohio State University where he received a degree in business before attending the Medical University of South Carolina to complete his training as a Physician Assistant. Basil’s journey to become a PA was a based on an injury that left him sidelined. He had a bicycle crash that left him unable to do the activities he loved for many months. During this time, he realized he had a continuous desire to learn and a passion for helping people get back to the activities and lifestyle they love. That drove him to consider additional schooling to become a Physician’s Assistant. Basil previously worked in the food industry and enjoyed food science, which he found easily translated into medical science.
His favorite part about being a PA is being able to connect with others – patients and coworkers alike. He enjoys the constant learning, stories, and empathy he can share with others. As a PA, he finds it very rewarding to help others address and fix medical issues so they can safely and comfortably get back to their world, their loved ones and enjoy the activities that make them happy.
Before he landed at Urology Associates, Basil was an EMT and an internal medicine/primary care PA. Prior to that he worked in the food industry as a manager, fishmonger, cheesemonger, barista, server, and more. He also spent many years as a woodworker. When he is not at work, Basil enjoys numerous hobbies – woodworking, playing piano, reef tank keeping, cooking, hiking and exploring with his wife, learning and dabbling in whatever new adventures he can find.
