About Dr. James Thomasch
Dr. James Thomasch grew up on Long Island in New York. He attended Boston College and received a Bachelor of Science in Biology. While he was there, he received the Scholar of the College Award. Following his graduation, he went to work in a research lab at Duke University for four years as a research analyst. In his time there, he worked in the field of immunology and performed research on vaccines. He always knew, however, that he would go back to medical school at some point. He went on to attend medical school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was the recipient of the Holderness Research Fellowship. He also received the Endocrine Society Research Award. Dr. Thomasch went on to complete both his internship and his residency in urology at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.
Dr. Thomasch always knew from the time he was young that he wanted to be a doctor. He always liked science and was driven to have a career that was gratifying and purposeful. He chose to specialize in urology because it tied together his interests in immunology, medicine and he enjoyed honing his surgical skills in a medical field with rapidly advancing technology.
Today, he finds his work as a urologist rewarding because when people have problems, he is able to fix the problems and they get better. The gratitude that his patients show when they feel better is the biggest reason that he enjoys being a doctor. When it comes to his patients, he believes in shared decision making to find the very best treatment and therapy for each individual. He shares his expertise and explains in detail the different options available so that together they can choose the best treatment plan. Dr. Thomasch recognizes that patients often come in at a vulnerable time in their lives with urologic issues and he is focused on showing empathy and compassion for his patients.
Dr Thomasch treats all general urology conditions. He is also a specialist in Da Vinci robotic surgery for benign tumors and cancers of the prostate, kidney, ureter, and bladder. He also specializes in minimally invasive treatments for enlarged prostate/BPH and treats kidney stone disease.
Dr. Thomasch describes himself as a down-to-earth guy and when he is not working, he and his family love the Colorado lifestyle and enjoy spending time outdoors. He likes all the things the mountains have to offer and enjoys skiing, mountain biking, hiking and camping with his family.
