Urology Associates is excited to welcome Samantha Vaillancourt, PA-C, to our team. Sam brings a unique educational and professional background, a passion for urology, and a patient-centered approach to care.
For Sam, choosing urology as her specialty was not something she knew from the beginning. Her interest developed during PA school and quickly became a passion that has shaped the direction of her career.
Discovering a Passion for Urology
Sam grew up in central North Carolina before attending Rice University in Houston, Texas. After earning her undergraduate degree, she returned to North Carolina to pursue a master’s degree in bioethics at Wake Forest University.
After completing her master’s degree, Sam spent several years working in business process consulting. While she enjoyed her career, she ultimately realized she wanted to pursue a path that would allow her to work directly with patients and make a meaningful difference in their care. That decision led her back to school to become a physician assistant.
During her first year at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Sam discovered an unexpected passion for urology through her coursework. She enjoyed the subject so much that she chose to complete an elective rotation in urology during her second year of PA school.
That experience confirmed that urology was where she wanted to build her career. Since then, it has been the specialty she has been most passionate about pursuing.
Empowering Patients Through Education
Sam believes patients should be active participants in their own healthcare. She takes the time to help patients understand their conditions, learn about their treatment options, and feel confident managing their health.
Her approach to care is honest, respectful, and judgment-free. She strives to build trusting relationships with her patients so they feel comfortable discussing even the most difficult or personal health concerns.
For Sam, creating an environment where patients feel heard and understood is an important part of providing quality care.
A Patient-Centered Approach to Urologic Care
Urologic conditions can sometimes be difficult to talk about, which is why Sam places a strong emphasis on communication and education. By giving patients the information they need to understand what is happening with their health, she hopes to make conversations about urologic care feel more comfortable and approachable.
Her goal is to partner with patients throughout their care, helping them understand their options and make informed decisions about their health.
Life Outside of Urology
When she is not caring for patients, Sam enjoys spending time with her husband and son. As a family, they enjoy board games, while Sam also loves stand-up paddleboarding and cooking.
